'SPECIAL ORDER MODEL 1897' TAKE-DOWN LEVER-ACTION SPORTING RIFLE, serial no. 152299, for 1897, 23 3/4in. octagonal nitro barrel, the top flat engraved with the makers name, address and patent details, dove-tailed bone blade fore-sight, open rear sight with two folding leafs, marked for '25', '50' and '100' yards and with white-metal inlaid sight lines, full-length tubular magazine, take down action, engraved 'MARLIN SAFETY', the top strap engraved with the model designation, retaining slight traces of original colour-hardening and finish, chequered pistolgrip walnut butt stock (some splitting at the head), 13 1/4in. pull including trademark buttplate, weight 5lb. 12oz.
